SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco Fleet Week will include a Palo Alto Veteran’s Hospital visit.

What: Marines, Sailors and Coast Guard service members will travel to the Palo Alto VA Hospital to tour the facilities and greet veterans.

When: October 7, 2014. 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 PM Tuesday

Background:
Since 2010, Fleet Week has helped local authorities and service members prepare for and respond to emergencies, which may take place in the Bay Area and around the world. Joint exercises and seminars include urban search and rescue training, medical trauma training, a senior leader seminar, emergency response planning and coordination. The U.S. military has a history of working with domestic and international relief organizations and host nations in conducting with relief efforts in the event of catastrophic disasters.

Annually, maritime service members visit the VA hospital to pay tribute to wounded warriors and say thank you for their service.

San Francisco Fleet Week 2014 is Oct. 6 to 13. This year’s public events will feature the return of the Blue Angels airshow, a performance by the Marine Corps Band, the commissioning of the Navy’s newest ship-the USS America.
