MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Falcons’ football team suffered their first loss of the season against the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Headquarters Support Battalion Spartans, 36-0, at Paige Field House aboard MCB Camp Pendleton, Calif., Sept. 23.

The Falcons’ momentum started to diminish after the Spartans struck early in the first quarter on a 25-yard pass resulting in a touchdown. The Falcons were able to block the extra point making the score 6-0.

The following Falcons’ possession was plagued by penalties and resulted in a turnover on downs. The Spartans took possession of the football and marched downfield to score once again and attempted the two-point conversion, but was stopped by the Falcons’ defense. The Falcons fell behind 12-0.

“We got away from how Miramar plays football and played to the Spartans capabilities,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Carlice Moffett, Falcons’ head coach. “We have to go back to the trenches and back to the drawing board and go back to playing how we play football.”

The second half didn’t play out any better for the Falcons after giving up an additional 24 points to the Spartans. The Falcons found themselves behind in the game 36-0, as the final seconds of the game expired.

“Practice, practice, practice is what we are going to have to do,” said Aviation Ordinance 3rd Class Devin Garner, Falcons’ wide receiver. “We came out here thinking it was going to be easy. That’s not Falcons’ football; it’s definitely an eye opener.”

The Falcons will retake the field against the School of Infantry Outlaws at Paige Field House, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
