CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – This week’s U.S. Army Central Soldier Spotlight is Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Barber, a USARCENT Combined Forces Land Component Command Psychological Operations Planner.
Barber, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., is a USARCENT Soldier with 12 years of active duty service in the U.S. Army. Barber is three months into his deployment to Kuwait.
This is Barber’s eighth deployment. He is married to Renee Barber; they have two children, Nathan and Myah. Barber plans to complete a master’s degree in foreign economic development and to start a company that specializes in foreign trade.
Q: What is your favorite movie genre?
A: Comedy.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Seafood.
Q: What are your goals?
A: To finish out this deployment; prepare to return to Fort Bragg, and to continue developing as a leader hopefully attaining command sergeant major one day.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of raising two great kids.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Playing ice hockey, watching college football, coaching little league football, going to the beach, motorcycles and Muay Thai, a combat sport of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques.
Q: If you could spend one day working another job at USARCENT, what would it be?
A: I would like to be the J3, joint operations.
