MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., received the Marine Corps Personnel and Readiness Site Excellence Award from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense Sept. 17 for unwavering dedication to duty and outstanding performance by a team of Marine and civilian Department of Defense employees.
The air station’s Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System and Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System office received the award for the second consecutive year for their continually exceptional performance and customer service.

“Day-to-day you all do a great job,” said Col. Chris Pappas III, commanding officer of the air station. “You, as a team, set the standard here for installation excellence across the DOD.”

The Cherry Point DEERS and RAPIDS team directly contributed to the reduction of fraud and abuse and the efficient production of the Uniformed Service Identification Cards, according to Pappas.

“Each and every piece of what you do here is important,” said Pappas. “Your team excels not only on the business side, but also with customer interaction.”

Pappas expressed his appreciation for the DEERS and RAPIDS team’s continuous efforts while presenting the award.

“We received the award for succeeding in excellence in customer service, upkeep of DEERS computer hardware and software and the amount of identification cards produced,” said LuAnn R. Corner, the supervisor for DEERS and RAPIDS.
Cherry Point is a beta test-center for all new hardware and software, explained Corner.

“Our focus is excellent customer service,” said Corner. “We come up with various ways to give customers options when it comes to processing information.”

According to Corner, Cherry Point’s DEERS and RAPIDS office is geared toward all learning types. They offer informational handouts for customers to take home and process later, verbally tell customers the information and also have a running PowerPoint presentation that highlights what documents need to be brought in and when ID cards need to be renewed.

“I feel very honored that my team was selected,” said Corner. “Our office has such a broad mix of personalities that no matter who comes in, we are readily available to help each other out and make sure that the customer leaves happy and gets what they need done.”
