MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Falcons stay undefeated with another win at Paige Fieldhouse aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Sept. 17.

The Falcons took down the 11th Marines Cannon Cockers, 30-6.

The game started with a stalemate until the Falcons recovered a fumble by the Cannon Cockers with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Falcons’ quarterback Jabari Moore connected with wide receiver Ian Sumner for the first touchdown of the game. The Falcons attempted a two-point conversion, but were unsuccessful.

The unsuccessful attempt didn’t seem to faze the Falcons. After the Cannon Cockers received the ball on the kickoff, the Falcons’ defense stopped the kick returner dead in his tracks on the Cannon Cocker one yard line. The Falcons forced the Cannon Cockers to fumble in their own end zone and recovered the ball resulting in a touchdown.

The offense continued to put points on the board by adding a field goal and another touchdown, but missed the extra point making the score 22-0 at the end of the second quarter.

After halftime, Falcons’ fullback Scott Stephen punched through the goal line for a fourth touchdown. They once again attempted a two-point conversion and were successful making the score 30-0.

Even with a significant lead, the Cannon Cockers offense didn’t let up and broke through the Falcons’ defense gaining their first touchdown before going into the fourth quarter. The defense quickly made up for it by blocking the extra point.

The Falcons’ defense held strong all the way through the fourth quarter making the final score 30-6.

“Overall we played a good game on both the offense and the defense,” said Jabari Moore, MCAS Miramar Falcons’ quarterback. “I know all my guys go out there and they give 100 percent and it showed.”

Although it was a victory for the Falcons, they look for ways to improve for the next game.

“We need to work on our passing game with the quarterbacks and receivers,” said Moore. “We can always do better.”

The running backs and full backs were a crucial part in this victory, added Moore.

With four games left in the season, the team and their fans see the Falcon’s taking the trophy for “Best in the West.”

“They played extremely well today and I’m very proud of them,” said Sgt. Maj. Richard Charron, MCAS Miramar sergeant major. “We’re going all the way. We are tired of coming in second.”

The Falcons face their next opponent, the Camp Pendleton Headquarters and Support Battalion Spartans, at 5 p.m. Sept. 23 at Paige Fieldhouse.
