BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan - More than 200 Airmen assigned to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing gathered outside Camp Cunningham, Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, to commemorate Patriot Day with a retreat and re-enlistment ceremony Sept. 11, 2014.
Patriot Day is recognized by U.S. law as the official day of remembrance for the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorist attacks cost 2,977 Americans their lives in Arlington, Virginia, New York City and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The Airmen also took the time to remember U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jason D. Cunningham, for whom the camp was named after. Cunningham, a pararescueman gave his life in Afghanistan while saving 10 lives and making it possible for seven others who were killed to come home.
