    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, were afforded the opportunity to run Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge, Sept. 3, for company physical training. The run was also open to members of the Savannah running community and 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade units.

The run route began in Ellis Square and wound through Savannah’s historic district along Broughton Street. From there, participants faced the 5.5 percent grade, 1.4 mile span of the bridge before being ferried across the Savannah River toward the finish line.

Capt. Ethan Miller commands the unit of Soldiers in HHC and organized the event to give his Soldiers a memorial experience and to a welcoming Savannah community.

“I want to sustain a climate that contributes positively to the lives of the Army family,” Miller said. He added that this event was an effort to challenge him and bring people together.

The run enlisted the help of various supporting agencies in the city to include: Savannah Belles Ferry, Savannah Police Department and Georgia Department of Transportation.

Christopher J. Aviles, commander for Company A, 4/3 Avn. Regt., said it was easy to stay motivated throughout the run because of the run location and route.

“The support from our sister battalions and Families was great—a true testament to the ‘one team one fight’ mentality of the 3rd CAB,” Aviles said.

Sgt. Samantha Mlavsky, orderly room noncommissioned officer for HHC, 4/3 Avn. Regt., brought her son, which made it a special event for both. Mlavsky said their favorite part of the run was the ferry ride across the Savannah River near the end of the route.

“Captain Miller made it a family friendly event, and opened the opportunity up to other companies and units,” Mlavsky said.

“It was an epic, unforgettable experience. Participants will remember this when they leave here,” Miller said.
