VALLEJO, Calif. – Soldiers of the 639th Transportation Detachment and their family members gathered for a welcome home warrior-citizen ceremony in Vallejo, California, Sept. 7, 2014.

The 639th Transportation Detachment spent nine months in three different countries, including Dubai, Jordan, and Kuwait. They were tasked to provide logistical support for drawdown operations in Afghanistan by helping to move more than a million pieces of equipment over land, sea, and air.

“The 639th Transportation Detachment was there to support our country the best we could,” said Sgt. 1st Class Stacey Buenavista, detachment sergeant for the 639th Transportation Detachment. “We accomplished our mission and exceeded the standards.”

In addition to their mission, Soldiers of the 639th Transportation Detachment accomplished something equally useful - building a sense of camaraderie and teamwork.

"It was a chance to grow as a Soldier and individual," said Spc. Samuel Chavez-Sotelo, a transportation management coordinator with the 639th Transportation Detachment. "I'm glad to have been able to serve with fellow Soldiers as a team."

Soldiers of the 639th Transportation Detachment have already begun the transition to civilian life. They look forward to spending more time with family-members and enjoying life back home.

"I'm very proud of the 639th Soldiers," said Buenavista. "We did our job well, and we're all glad to be home."
