    LAS VEGAS - Soldiers of the 948th Transportation Company Detachment participated in a ceremony for their deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Aug. 24 at the U.S. Army Reserve Center on Nellis AFB in Las Vegas.

    The 948TH MCT will go to Afghanistan to conduct air and ground movement of equipment, providing customer coordination and notification of asset arrival. They will also provide in-transit visibility for unit equipment and sustainment cargo movement at entry control points.

    Capt. Tierra J. Guillory, 948th TC Detachment commander, was enthusiastic when she made her remarks during the deployment ceremony.

    "It is a humbling privilege for me to be here with all of you today," said Guillory. "I want to thank the real VIPs. The real heroes are the citizens, Soldiers and families of the Army Reserves."

    The summer heat did not keep friends and families of the Soldiers away for the ceremony as they sat in the U.S. Army Reserve Center ready to support their loved ones.

    The 948th TC Detachment was focused with preparing for this mobilization, attending drivers training and MRAP training. They have also conducted Theater-Specific Individual Readiness Training, which focuses on providing deploying units/individuals with realistic
    scenarios.

    “Today, the Soldiers of the 948th will be writing the next chapter in the United States Reserve’s proud story, protecting our nation from terrorists,” said Guillory. “We don’t say goodbye today because we look forward to returning home to the hugs of our families. Until then, the prayers of millions of Americans will be with you.”

    The detachment stood disciplined and ready to do their duty. After the ceremony, Soldiers, friends and families met in the unit drill hall for a reception with a meal and refreshments.


    The unit will maintain communications with resident sustainment organizations and supported units in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

    Capt. Guillory is a graduate of the Basic Officer Leadership Course, ROTC Leadership Development Assessment Course, Blue Force Tracker Course, Sling load Inspector Course, Combat Level 1 Course, Property Book Course and Master Resilience Course. She is currently 948th Movement Control Detachment commander.

    Capt. Guillory’s civilian education consists of her Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from The University of Nevada Las Vegas of Las Vegas, Nevada. A Master in Business Administration Degree from Grantham University Kansas City, Missouri and a Doctorate in Business Administration from California Southern University in Roosevelt, Irvine, California.
