The event will provide media an opportunity to view and record live demonstrations of these technologies and interview subject matter experts about their use and potential.

WHAT: U.S. Southern Command Emerging Technologies Media Day
WHERE: U.S. Southern Command headquarters, 9301 NW 33rd St., Doral, Florida
WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 3, 9:30 a.m. – noon
WHY: To showcase lifesaving and cost-effective technologies being evaluated by U.S. Southern Command for potential future use in support of disaster relief and humanitarian assistance missions:
- Instant Eye UAS flight demonstration
- PEAK, a suite of tools that provide pure water, renewable power, situational awareness, and communications for use in emergencies and crises.
- GeoSHAPE, a platform that allows organizations to a disaster to create, edit and share disaster-related information on a map
- COMET, a framework that enables information to travel without an internet connection, using wireless mesh networks.
- GATR, a high-bandwidth satellite communications system, that is light, portable, and can be setup in less than 30 minutes
