RAF MILDENHALL, United Kingdom - The 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron Vehicle Management flight recognizes their performers and encourages hard work and dedication through a reward system. Each month they award an Airman the title “Performer of the Month.”

Airman 1st Class James Matthew Doligon, 100th LRS Special Purpose Vehicle Maintenance apprentice from Kealakekua, Hawaii was July’s winner. He’s been in the military since February 2013, and is passionate about his chosen career field.

“I simply enjoy coming to work and learning about how vehicles ‘tick,’” the apprentice said. “It’s really convenient in the civilian world and I can’t remember how many times it has helped me with my own vehicle and that of my friends as well as random strangers in need of assistance.”

The flight is responsible for 565 vehicles assigned to its fleet, 181 of which are considered priority. They ensure all the vehicles are mission ready. The vehicle management flight is also responsible for coordinating with all assigned host and tenant unit leadership to ensure each unit’s assigned vehicle fleet is postured with an appropriate mix of vehicles to support their mission needs.

Doligon is a vital part of this group of Airmen.

“I troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles to ensure the mission capability of the base,” the Hawaii native explained.

The vehicle management shop supports many units on base including the 100th Air Refueling Wing, 95th Reconnaissance Squadron, 727th Air Mobility Squadron, U.S. Air Forces in Europe-United Kingdom, Defense Courier Service and the Office of Special Investigations. The vehicle management team also supports the 352nd Special Operations Group.

Doligon’s leadership are proud of the young Airman.

“Airman Doligon’s perseverance and positive attitude have been critical to his development and he simply refuses to quit,” said Master Sgt. Adam Morrison, 100th LRS Vehicle Fleet manager from Breese, Illinois.

Doligon’s actions added to the success of the flight.

“Airman Doligon’s award as the Vehicle Management Flight Performer of the Month for July is a result of the contributions he made in the pursuit of our flight earning a 95 percent fleet mission-capable rate, the highest fleet mission capable rate we have secured since April 2009,” Morrison added.

For Doligon, his chosen career is not something in which he has previous experience. It’s new to him and he is learning from his leadership and fellow Airmen each day.

“I did not have a mechanical background before I came in, so every day is a new challenge. Sometimes the challenges are really simple to fix and sometimes very frustrating, but working with a team of knowledgeable and positive people makes it worthwhile,” the apprentice explained.

Doligon has advice for others thinking of joining the Air Force.

“It's not an easy road, but then again if everyone could do it, then it wouldn't be as rewarding. Be focused and believe in yourself,” Doligon reflected.
