ST. PAUL, Minn. - U.S. Air Force Airmen and their families took part in the 133rd Airlift Wing’s Family Day activities in St. Paul Aug. 16, 2014. Family Day is an annual event that recognizes the families and thanks them for their support to the Airmen.

For some of Airmen and their families, their morning began with the Family Day 5K. Afterwards, they trekked over to the North Hangar for the opening ceremony.

During the opening ceremony, Col. James Johnson, commander of the 133rd Airlift Wing, recognized Senior Master Sgt. William Pieper, 133rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, and Tom Reller, 133rd civil engineer, for the work that they put into making Family Day a success.

The Airmen and their families were treated to a wide range of activities for children of all ages, to include hovercraft rides, archery, pedal cars, a rock climbing wall and different types bouncy castles.

When asked what his favorite part of Family Day is, Ian O’Brien, nephew of a 133rd Airlift Wing member, said, “Right now, fast pitch. I played the basketball shoot with my cousin, Aiden, and that was pretty fun.”

A local favorite restaurant, Fat Lorenzo’s, provided pasta dishes, salad, bread and gelato for families to enjoy.

Even the hot and humid weather didn’t slow down the events. With the sun peaking out half way through the day, Airmen, families and friends were able to continue on as planned.

“Outstanding! You feel like you contribute and given back,” commented Master Sgt. Robert Potter, 133rd Airlift Wing, on taking part in today’s events. “Especially with kids, you see the joy on their faces. It’s a great time all the way around.”
