Iraq - When the call to provide humanitarian assistance in Iraq came, Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s subsistence supply chain responded quickly, the supply chain’s director of customer operations said.
“To date, we have purchased 7,000 cases of Halal meals and 19,000 cases of bottled water in support of the mission,” Rich Faso said. “And we have done so in an expedited fashion.”
The meals and water were a part of the U.S. military’s fourth airdrop, which took place Aug. 10, to provide relief to Iraqi citizens.
According to a U.S. Central Command release, as of Aug. 12, U.S. military aircraft had delivered more than 74,000 meals and more than 15,000 gallons of fresh drinking water to citizens in northern Iraq.
Faso said DLA Troop Support will continue to keep abreast of what is needed so that all requirements can be filled.
“We are coordinating with [Army Central Command, DLA Central Command and headquarters] to try and stay on top of the demands,” he said.
