CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Maj. Gen. James W. Lukeman relinquished command of 2nd Marine Division to Major Gen. Brian D. Beaudreault during a change of command ceremony at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Aug. 7.

Lukeman served as the commanding general of the division for two years and is scheduled to take command of Marine Corps Training and Education Command at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.

During his remarks, Lukeman said over the past two years he has served alongside exceptional Marines and sailors and their dedication to teamwork has made his time as commanding general remarkable.

Lukeman praised and thanked the Marines and sailors of 2nd MarDiv for their dedicated service throughout his time as their leader.

“Marines and sailors, I’m proud to have served with you these last two years,” said Lukeman. “You’re some of the finest that America has to offer and I appreciate the fact that you stepped forward and joined the Marine Corps in a time when your nation needed you. I’m proud of each and every one of you.”

During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. William Beydler, the commanding general of 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, applauded Lukemon for his leadership.

“He’s done an excellent job as the commanding general,” said Beydler. “He was focused on readiness, and he made sure his Marines and the Marine units before him were ready to deploy.”

During his remarks, Beaudreault said he looks forward to continuing the unit’s success and said commanding 2nd MarDiv is the greatest opportunity he has had in his career.

“As a division, we will be ready to fight,’ said Beaudreault. “We are a certain force in a world of uncertainty. We are the insurance policy of the United States of America, and there’s no greater honor that an officer can have than standing and leading this formation into combat.”
