MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. – Four students from the state of Georgia completed the Marine Corps 2014 Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy (SLCDA) here, July 26.
One-hundred-fifty well-rounded high school students participated in the third annual SLCDA, which is hosted by the Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC). Those selected are service-inclined, academically excellent, leadership-oriented, athletically gifted, and come from a variety of backgrounds and geographic locations. Among the students were Gordon Flagg III of Norcross, Charles Mason of Stone Mountain, Samantha Mullis of Suwanee and Jeb Stewart of Duluth.
This year's SLCDA took place July 20-26, and exposed these rising high school juniors and seniors to Marine Corps character and leadership-based fundamentals. The academy stresses the value of leadership, ethics, education, and community service in order to prepare students for future success.
