FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials closed the House Creek Bridge on West Range Road at 7 a.m. July 30 to all traffic to ensure public safety after engineers discovered major structural issues with the bridge.
Tactical military vehicles will continue to use the low-water crossing for track and wheeled vehicles and the one-way elevated bridge for wheeled vehicles. All other traffic -- commercial, privately owned vehicles and non-tactical military vehicles (buses/vans/sedans) -- will be diverted to Tank Destroyer Boulevard and Farm-to-Market Road 116 and then to Gatesville or to Elijah Road.
Directorate of Public Works officials expect the bridge to be closed for as long as 12 months in order to fund, contract and complete the necessary repairs. Fort Hood officials have posted appropriate signage.
