    21st Theater Sustainment Command

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - When any leader changes duty stations and begins the next stage in their career, it is a bittersweet moment. On one hand, the leader receives the opportunity to mentor new Soldiers and influence a new organization; on the other, it means saying farewell to colleagues and friends.

Col. Michael Snyder received the Legion of Merit for his service to the 21st Theater Sustainment Command as the deputy commanding officer during an award ceremony on Panzer Kaserne July 24.

Snyder served as the DCO of the 21st TSC for two years, during which time he served two commanding generals.

“Maj. Gen. Aundre Piggee was an amazing commanding general,” Snyder said. “Working with Maj. Gen. O’Connor has also been a great experience. His passion and love for Soldiers really shows in everything he does.”

During his time as DCO, Snyder worked closely with leaders from the 21st TSC’s command sections and subordinate units. He was also the first officer in charge of the 21st TSC’s Regional Support Element at Mihail Kogalniceanu Airbase, Romania. He commented on the superior teamwork and capabilities of the command.

“The Soldiers and leaders of the 21st TSC are unstoppable and capable of anything,” Snyder said. “That really showed at MK Airbase where we were just a small element, but we were running the show. We worked with European Command, U.S. Army Europe, the Air Force and the Marine Corps, and we got the job done.”

Snyder’s next assignment will be commander of the 595th Transportation Brigade, based in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Their mission is to provide surface deployment and distribution operations to meet national security objectives in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

Maj. Gen. John R. O’Connor, the commanding general of the 21st TSC, commented on Snyder’s service after the award ceremony.

“We bid farewell to an outstanding 21st TSC leader who performed exceptionally as the deputy commanding officer,” O’Connor said. “We wish him the absolute best in his next assignment, and I know that he is going to bring his professionalism and love for Soldiers with him."
