    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Brigadier Gen. Charles G. Chiarotti assumed command of 2nd Marine Logistics Group from Brig. Gen. Edward D. Banta during a change of command ceremony.

“2nd MLG is what allows II Marine Expeditionary Force to do anything, anywhere,” said Maj. Gen. Raymond C. Fox, commanding general of II MEF. “They have done an incredible job of making sure we can go anywhere on the planet and we can do what we have to do. Brig. Gen. Banta has been in charge of that and has made sure we didn’t miss a beat. I can’t thank him enough for what he’s done.”

Chiarotti began his time in the Marine Corps as a lieutenant on Camp Johnson in 1986 and expressed his career-long desire to return to the area. Until recently, he served as the deputy director of plans and programs for U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany, before returning to take command of 2nd MLG.

“We were so blessed to be surrounded by professional young men and women who make up our service, and to have a setting like this to celebrate this historic passage of command,” said Chiarotti. “As I stood here getting ready this morning and just seeing familiar faces, I knew that once again I was home.”

After Banta turned over command of the 2nd MLG, he expressed the pride he felt commanding the unit and the trust placed in Chiarotti by assuming command.

“This is a great day,” said Banta. “It was really tough for me to stand up there and let go of those colors. I’m equally honored and humbled to have had the privilege of serving with these Marines and sailors, and now passing on their legacy of excellence to Brig. Gen. Chiarotti.”
