    Retired 1st Cavalry Division NCO to receive Purple Heart for Iraq war wounds

    FORT HOOD, Texas – Retired Sgt. James R. Wilson will be awarded the Purple Heart in a ceremony Friday, July 11 at 10 a.m. in the West Atrium of the III Corps Headquarters building here.

    Wilson was wounded during Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to Bravo Company, 27th Main Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division.

    He sustained his wounds June 4, 2004.

    Wilson, a native of Orrick, Missouri, enlisted into the Army as a motor transport specialist in 1996 and was medically retired in 2006.
