    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – The female Soldiers of 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade put their physical stamina and Soldiering skills to the test during the Falcon Warrior Challenge on Hunter Army Airfield July 2.

Colonel John D. Kline, 3rd CAB commander, wanted a competition that would build camaraderie and build confidence in physical and mental ability while giving them the chance to meet with others in the Falcon Brigade and strengthen the Female Mentorship Network.

“I wanted to provide an event that would allow you to compete against each other,” said Kline. “If you want to compete on a physical level, this course is going to give you an opportunity. I promise you.”

Competitors in teams of four were challenged with a rope climb, pull ups, and inclined sit ups. From there, they ran to a weapons station where they were required to disassemble and reassemble an M4 Rifle, and M9 pistol. Once a functions check was complete, they conducted pushups, a 25 meter tire flip, and litter carry until they reached the obstacle course, also known as the Ranger confidence course.

It was there where the competitors’ intestinal fortitude was further tested. The Soldiers finished the competition with a 25 meter low crawl across the finish line.

One of the competitors, Spc. Adriana Seui, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd CAB, said the cargo net was the toughest obstacle for her.

“A lot of people are afraid of heights,” said Seui, an El Paso, Texas, native. “I’m one of them. So I just tried not to look down. My teammates were cheering me on and that helped a lot.”

“That was crazy” said Kline about Pfc. Shannon Brophy, HHC 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment when describing her effort to conquer the rope climb. “I don’t even think her feet touched the rope.”

Brophy, an Erie, Pennsylvania, native, completed the rope climb in mere seconds. After the competition, she couldn’t contain her excitement.

“I was pumped to go,” said Brophy. “This female to female stuff is great.”

Brophy said when she was younger; she was a gymnast for seven years.

“When I trained to be a gymnast I used to do rope climbs all day, every day,” said Brophy.

When the competition was over, Command Sgt. Maj. James P. Snyder, command sergeant major, 3rd CAB, addressed the crowd.

“I’m not convinced that it was hard enough. There were way too many smiles and way too much motivation,” said Snyder jokingly. “You should have taken away four things from this. One is the physical training aspect, the second is confidence. The third is the teamwork aspect. I knew we had that when I watched a team that had already finished crawl across the finish line with another team. That’s exactly what we’re looking for. And last, hopefully you got to meet some new folks in the brigade you’ve never met before.”
