MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - Navy Rear Adm. Vincent Griffith, director of Defense Logistics Agency Logistics Operations, traveled to MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, June 20 to preside as Army Col. Mark McCormick passed command of DLA Central to Army Col. Derrin Williams.

Griffith praised the DLA Central workforce, saying DLA Central makes "it happen for our warfighters in the Middle East, providing food, fuel, repair parts, construction equipment and other sustainment items."

DLA Central has continued "to amaze me with their logistics expertise and let’s get it done attitude, led by their terrific leader, Col. McCormick," Griffith continued.

McCormick has served as the DLA Central commander since 2012. After turning over the reins of the organization, McCormick will retire from active duty after 28 years of service. During his tenure as commander, McCormick presided over DLA Central’s support to the U.S. State Department in its continuing mission in Iraq while overseeing DLA’s support to the drawdown, redeployment and retrograde effort in Afghanistan.

Williams comes to DLA as an experienced Army logistician with a strong background in U.S. central Command gained through numerous tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also brings a strategic perspective from his studies at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Williams said he is prepared to lead DLA Central into the next phase of logistics support to the USCENTCOM area of operations as the U.S. turns over security responsibilities to Afghan forces and prepares for other contingencies.

Attendees at the ceremony included Army Maj. Gen. Aundre Piggee, USCENTCOM’s director of logistics, engineering and contracting, as well as his deputy, Scott Anderson.
