CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Coast Guard rescued a pilot after his plane crashed Tuesday south of Corpus Christi near Baffin Bay.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. the Coast Guard received a report from the Federal Aviation Administration that a civilian Cessna pilot made a mayday call. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders immediately diverted an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to respond.
The helicopter crew located the plane which had crashed near Baffin Bay. A rescue swimmer was lowered to assess the pilot’s condition and he was taken to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi where an ambulance was waiting.

    He is in stable condition.

“I am happy we were able to help a fellow pilot in distress,” said Lt. Dylan Sapia, the Coast Guard helicopter pilot. “Any aviation mishap hits close to home and we are grateful we could render assistance.”
