BISMARCK, N.D. — A Sacrifice for Freedom Tribute Presentation, hosted by the North Dakota National Guard’s Service Member and Family Support Division, will honor and remember the ultimate sacrifices made by North Dakota’s fallen heroes and their families tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Memorial Hall at the State Capitol Building. North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple, first lady Betsy Dalrymple, Connie Sprynczynatyk, civilian aide to the secretary of the Army, and Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, will be in attendance, with media availability immediately following the ceremony.

Nine North Dakota service members and their families will be honored, and family members in attendance will be presented the Sacrifice for Freedom Tribute during the event. Following the ceremony, May 22, about 50 family members will travel to Washington, D.C., for the annual Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) Memorial Day event, where they will attend a National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp. The TAPS Good Grief Camp partners mentors with children of deceased service members, which helps them through their grieving process after losing a loved one.

Since 2005, North Dakota has sent nearly 250 family members to benefit from TAPS support and services over Memorial Day weekend. In North Dakota, TAPS is supported by the nonprofit North Dakota National Guard Foundation.
