FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – The 213th Regional Support Group, headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania completed their two-week annual training, here today.

This year’s annual training focused on unit training and then switched gears to support Vigilant Guard, and emergency preparedness exercise hosted by the Pennsylvania National Guard.
During the first week, training focused on warrior training including weapons systems qualification and driver’s training. Specific units were tested on their ability to react to chemical attack and familiarity in using their gas mask while proceeding through the gas chamber.

Engineers of the 228th Engineer Company also conducted demolitions training as they fired off shape charges, Bangalore torpedoes, and cratering charges.

The focus of the second week was Vigilant Guard. Military police elements from the 103rd Engineer Battalion secured the perimeter by doing entry control point operations at a training site designed for first responders to react to simulated disasters.

Chemical and engineer companies united alongside Airmen to respond to simulated natural and man-made disasters during the exercise. The teams make up the overarching CERFP, a chemical response team.

Transportation units of the 728th CSSB also supplied personnel licensed on many different types of vehicles to transport and conduct water missions. The units moved pallets of water and trailers to locations on Fort Indiantown Gap and to other emergency simulated exercise sites outside of the installation as far as Philadelphia.

Administrative personnel in-processed, assigned badges and tracked Vigilant Guard participants partaking in the exercise. The reverse occurred upon completion of the exercise.

Vigilant Guard is a multi-state and multi-agency exercise that tests emergency preparedness throughout the commonwealth. This simulated exercise provides an opportunity for Soldiers to work alongside state agencies.

“In the event of state active duty, units within the 213th Regional Support Group transform into a task force support structure designed to react and respond to state emergencies,” said Col. Mark McCormack, 213th RSG commander. “My soldiers did an excellent job and I’d consider annual training and Vigilant Guard a success,” he said.

Organized in 1849, the 213th Regional Support Group has a long history of providing support for both state and active duty operations. The 213th Regional Support Group consists of more than twenty specialized units located throughout the commonwealth. The units that represent the 213th RSG include finance, maintenance, personnel, sustainment, transportation, engineer, military police, contracting, public affairs, and hazardous materials organizations.
