MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. - Scheduled to be completed in early June, the end of Marine Corps Base Quantico’s commissary renovations are in sight. One of the final pieces of the project is the replacement of the store’s shelving units, which will temporarily close the base grocery.

Instead of closing at 6 p.m., the commissary will shut its doors at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2014, and will remain closed until Wednesday, April 30 at 9 a.m.

“Our purpose [for the close] is to replace old shelving with brand new units and to conduct a complete store reset,” said Ronald Smith, the commissary store director. “[It will be] a total rearrangement, [meaning] the layout will change.”

According to Smith, the changes will benefit customers two-fold.

“By adding the new shelving units, [the room for] new products will be available,” said Smith. “[Shoppers] can expect improved … flow and overall ease of shopping.”

Leslie Ford, commissary store manager, agreed and added another important benefit.

“[The renovation] will make it easier to shop and find items in the places you expect to find them, especially since products have shifted [around the store] due to renovation needs,” said Ford. “Everything will be better organized.”

All of the store’s shelving units will be replaced, save the coolers and freezers which were replaced last year.

Although the store does have to temporarily close to complete the project, Smith said the plan is to do so as conveniently for the customer as possible.

“Sunday is a shorter day, and Monday and Tuesday aren’t as busy as the rest of the week,” said Smith. “We want to be as least disruptive as possible.”

Because of the new product placement, there are two ways consumers will be able to easily navigate the store to find desired items. Customers can find a floor plan layout at commissaries.com, or pick up a printed copy when the store reopens April, 30.
