CHERRY POINT, N.C. - “Get ready, set, go!” sounded from behind the caution tape as children ran toward the little colored eggs scattered all across the ground at the Shady Grove picnic area. Hidden under pine needles, behind trees and even under tires, the children searched for the eggs left behind by a little furry friend.
Service members and families of Marine Aircraft Group 14 gathered for the fifth annual Easter Eggstravaganza at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., April 11.
Egg tosses, egg hunts and a visit from the Easter Bunny were some of the many activities that were offered to Marines, Sailors and the families of MAG-14.
“At MAG-14, we work really closely with the other squadrons so this kind of event builds camaraderie and lets Marines and Sailors get to know each other,” said Michael McGuinness, the family readiness officer for MAG-14.
More than 1,300 service members participated in Eggstravaganza, a higher turnout than any previous year, according to McGuinness.
“This is by far the largest event we have ever put together for the families and service members of MAG-14, and it’s just great,” said McGuinness.
Family members were able to take their children out for a day of fun with the members of MAG-14, bringing everyone closer together.
“I definitely think this type of event is a good thing,” said Cpl. Cory Andreoni, an aviation electronics technician with Marine Air Logistics Squadron 14. “It brings families together and gives the kids something to do.”
Parents even participated in some of the events allowing for morale boosting fun with their children.
“This is just perfect,” said Capt. Candie Coleman, a continuous process improvement officer with MALS-14. “This is good for morale and families feel a part of the unit and the events as well.”
