    FORT BRAGG, N.C. - U.S. Army Forces Command Commanding General Daniel B. Allyn visited the Arizona National Guard’s 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade,”Bushmasters” tactical operations center on Fort Bragg, N.C., April 9.

    The 158th MEB is at Fort Bragg to participate in the Warfighter 14-04 exercise conducted by the 82nd Airborne Division there.

    Several foreign and U.S. Army units are participating in Warfighter but the 158th was the only U.S. unit Allyn visited.

    “We are extraordinarily honored that General Allyn took the time to visit us,” said Lt. Col. Chris Lambesis, 158th MEB executive officer.

    While there, Allyn spoke with the 158th command and staff as well as many of the units Soldiers.

    Two Soldiers, Master Sgt. Kirtis M. Hourscht, infantryman and Sgt. William M. Stanley, Information Technology specialist were presented coins by Allyn in recognition for their contributions to the MEB’s mission.

    Maj. Warren G. Strnad, current battle operations officer-in-charge nominated Hourscht for the recognition due to his outstanding performance as a battle noncommissioned officer during the exercise.

    “He has done a great job here and developed standard operating procedures that will be used in the future as well,” said Strnad.

    Hourscht was surprised but happy to receive the coin, he said.

    “When they called me in I thought something was wrong that I needed to fix,” said Stanley. “Then when I saw the general, I thought they wanted me to brief him, but when he handed me a coin I was pleasantly surprised and ecstatic.”

    Stanley’s supervisor, Chief Warrant Officer II George R. Wade had high praise for the recently promoted sergeant, “He volunteered to come on this mission with just a week’s notice, has stepped up and taken ownership of his job and has cheerfully worked long hours.”

    The 158th is scheduled to complete the Warfighter exercise and return to Arizona mid –April.
