MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Marines and sailors attended the 21st annual Marine South Military Exposition to meet various industry representatives aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, April 9 and 10.

Representatives from more than 120 companies attended the event, giving Marines the opportunity to browse new technology, equipment and weapons, ranging from handguns and automatic weapons, to combat footwear.

“The military expos bring industry and our military together, allowing companies to demonstrate and display what is available now and in the future,” said Jim Tuohy, the national commandant of the Marine Corps League.

Marines and sailors searched the event, looking for equipment that could improve efficiency and productivity in various occupations throughout the Marine Corps.

“We are here to talk to the different vendors and explore new technology so we can better support our young Marines,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Robert Foshee, motor transport operations chief with II Marine Expeditionary Force. “There are technologies here that could help us in the future, and we are hoping to hear back from the companies within the next month.”

Attendees interacted with representatives, shared their opinions and asked questions, as they learned new information on the technology available.

“They have a lot of questions on different features,” said J.C. Corbett, a vendor at the expo and representative for the Sig Sauer Academy. “A lot of our special weapons group guys work directly with the Marine Corps on a constant basis, so the Marines are always telling us what they want to see in future rifles. The most important thing is what the guys are looking for in our products, so we make sure they meet their needs.”

Representatives received feedback and responses from Marines who have experience with the products on display.

“We are always looking for feedback and always looking for different things we can improve on, so we want as much (feedback) as we can get on our products,” said Corbett.

The Marine South military expo encouraged the relationship between the Marines who use the equipment and the companies who produce them.

“The expo went very well and there was a lot of great equipment out there to see,”said Tuohy. “This is how companies bring their equipment to the forefront for our military to see.”
