ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. - The Air Force Assistance Fund campaign officially ended for Altus Air Force Base April 10, 2014 and raised a total of $35,026.
Altus Air Force Base set its sights high with a goal of $50,000 and reached 70 percent of that goal. Although, the base met and exceeded the Air Force’s goal of what the Altus AFB population should raise by 136 percent.
The AFAF is comprised of four charities; the Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation, the Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Enlisted Village, and the General and Curtis E. LeMay Foundation that provides support for a wide range of people across the Air Force including active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and their families.
Over the past six weeks, the Altus AFB community raised the money for these charities through donations, fundraising events and competitions. Among the events included a motorcycle rally, bowl-a-thon, movie showing and a Mustache March themed competition.
“The events were well-received and overwhelmingly supported by everyone on Team Altus,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Jennifer Wheeler, 97th Communications Squadron official mail manager and assistant installation project officer for the Altus AFB AFAF. “These contributions led to the success of this year’s AFAF campaign.”
Wheeler volunteered to help lead the 2014 Altus AFB AFAF campaign because she appreciates the importance of the charities due to her own experiences with the Air Force Aid Society.
“Having received a General Arnold Educational Grant for my son from the Air Force Aid Society last year, I personally understand the value of the AFAF Campaign and believe that the charities it funds truly do give back to the Airmen,” said Wheeler.
