Mobilization and Deployment, DPTMS Fort Bliss

FORT BLISS, Texas -- Directorate of Mobilization and Deployment commander, Col. John F. Dorney, hosted the Transfer of Authority ceremony between outgoing units, 2209th Mobilization Support Battalion, Reserve unit from Mountain View, Calif., and the 2216th MSBn, from Colorado Springs, Colo. and the incoming units, 2213th MSBn, 85th MSC, from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., and the 2215th MSBn, from Fort Carson, Colo., at Stayton Theater, here, April 3. All four MSBns fall under 2nd Mobilization Support Group, 85th Regional Support Command.

Outgoing commander Lt. Col. Craig Cox, 2216th MSBns, had mixed feelings about his impending departure.

“Obviously it’s going to be great to get home to the family; it’s been a long year in that regard,” said Cox. “But we loved the mission. We loved working at McGregor (N.M.). We loved the pride that the employees out there had.”

Cox credits the success to ingenuity on the part of his Soldiers and McGregor employees who met their goals with a tight budget; they found ways to improve at no cost. “It’s a welcoming place for Soldiers to leave from and to return to and I know it’s going to stay that way with the two new units,” Cox said.

The incoming leadership was motivated and ready to start.

“I’ve never been here before but it’s the best mob/demob site I’ve ever been in so I’m real excited to be here,” said Lt. Col. Philip Dizon, 2213th MSBns. “I have a great set of troops; they are very knowledgeable and we are ready to go.”

“We’re happy to be here and glad to be part of the mission,” stated Lt. Col. Kevin Ellson, 2215th MSBns. “We are looking forward to continuing the great traditions of the 2209th and 2216th and looking forward to working with DoMaD and garrison (1st Armored Division).”

Dorney began his speech by thanking outgoing commands for accomplishing the goals set for the mission.

“The 2209th was tasked to run the Soldier Readiness Resilience Process site and a lot of their individuals were spread throughout the DoMaD formation,” Dorney said. “To be honest with you, we could not have performed the mission without these individuals being tasked. At the same time, the battalion commander and sergeant major brought the 2209th to new heights. The leadership, by making the process better for mobilizing Soldiers, is very commendable, but (2209th Soldiers) made it happen.

“The 2216th was given a little bit bigger piece of pie downrange (at McGregor) to make things work but you guys didn’t even heed that. You hit the goals that Col. Dayley (garrison commander) set with the theater and the gym. With all the (After Action Reports) that came through from units and staff positions, I never heard a bad thing.”

Dorney also welcomed the new units.

“The mission that the 2213th and 2215th are going to pick up, you’re going to be doing a very difficult mission, but with the attitude your leadership has, we are off and running and I think we’re going to hit a home run,” claimed Dorney.

DoMaD serves tens of thousands of U.S. Army Active, Reserve, National Guard, Navy and Air Force personnel a year, with all aspects of mobilization, deployment, redeployment, and demobilization on Fort Bliss.
