Mobilization and Deployment, DPTMS Fort Bliss

FORT BLISS, Texas - The mild climate and small breezes gave the perfect weather for Soldiers and government civilians assigned to the Directorate of Mobilization and Deployment to have their Organizational Day at Biggs Park on March 28.

This was also the first time that all outgoing and incoming Mobilization and Support Battalions were together, as they continued a transfer of authority process. The Organizational Day allowed all members to relax and get to know each other in a casual setting.

Instead of going head-to-head with sections, members of DoMaD picked out their own teams and competed in multiple events. Teams Alpha through Delta strived to earn the DoMaD sports trophy. In the end, Charlie team took home the trophy after winning most of the events.

Local El Pasoan and U.S. Army Reservist, Sgt. 1st Class Robert Ramos, Delta team member, enjoyed the activities that brought camaraderie between his teammates.

“I enjoyed the Organizational Day very much,” said Ramos. “We had good teamwork, even though we came in second place.”

The first event was volleyball. Two games were played simultaneously with Alpha team against Charlie and Bravo team against Delta. The winners of both games played each other and Charlie team conquered Bravo team.

Next was the tug-of-war event beginning with Alpha team against Delta. After rigorous pulling and grunting, Alpha team was able to pull the mid-point marker past the line indicating they won. When Bravo faced Charlie on the rope, they were no match for Charlie team. Once again, Charlie dominated the event by beating Alpha in the final round.

Other events such as spades, dominoes, horseshoe toss, egg toss and sack race were done simultaneously to allow other members to participate as well.

The final event was the three-on-three basketball tournament. True athletic talent was demonstrated on the Biggs Park basketball court between all four teams. However, there could only be one winner. Charlie team once again, dominated the court by beating Alpha team.

Organizational Day for DoMaD definitely served its purpose in raising esprit de corps and morale. Soldiers were dismissed late in the afternoon for an early start to their weekend.
