Mobilization and Deployment, DPTMS Fort Bliss

FORT BLISS, Texas - The 210th Military Police Detachment, North Carolina National Guard, redeployed March 23 at the Arrival/Departure Air Control Group, here, after completing a tour in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Ashley Waldrop, a military policeman, is grateful she experienced her first deployment with people she feels have now become family to her.

“It was a different experience,” said Waldrop. “You go into a deployment expecting so many different things, and I think we all got really close. I can honestly say that I have made some best friends.”

The 210th MP Det. contributed to the security and safety of Bagram Air base by conducting daily patrols. The unit also conducted detainee escorts.

Yet, Waldrop’s most memorable moment was when she came in contact with a young child at an Egyptian hospital near the base. The little girl reminded Waldrop of her little sister.

“Her mom gave her a nudge and she ran up to me, and I got down on my knee and she gave me a hug and a handshake and I would’ve given her a candy, if I had candy at the time, but I couldn’t, so I gave her a pen. That was my most memorable moment just because it reminded me of home,” said Waldrop.

The 210th MP Det. will spend about a week, here, to go through a demobilization process before hopping onto another plane to go home to Franklin, N.C., In the meantime, Waldrop wanted to let her family know that everything that was mailed was greatly appreciated.

“I just want to say to my family, friends, and all others, from care packages to the things that they sent, to try to raise morale, they did an awesome job, and they were all really supportive, and it didn’t go overlooked, it was all appreciated. I don’t take it a single bit for granted and I never will. It will be cherished for the rest of my life,” said Waldrop.
