Joint Task Force-Bravo promotes cohesion through 6.6 mile fun run/walk

Joint Task Force Bravo

SOTO CANO AIR BASE, Honduras - More than 200 Joint Task Force-Bravo members participated in a 6.6 mile perimeter fun run/walk at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, March 21, 2014.

The Army Support Activity's (ASA) Department of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation organized the race and coordinated with JTF-Bravo's Joint Security Forces, the 612th Air Base Wing and the Medical Element to ensure that the event was a success.

Family and MWR seeks to contribute to the strength and readiness of service members by offering services that reduce stress and build skills and self confidence.

“These run/walks not only provide the service members assigned to Joint Task Force-Bravo a healthy program to participate in but it also promotes morale building as well,” said Lourdes Padilla, Army Support Activity business and marketing specialist.

The 6.6 mile course started in front of the swimming pool parking lot and continued around the JTF-Bravo perimeter road and ended back in the parking lot in front of the swimming pool.

"It was a beautiful morning at Soto Cano," said U. S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Selvin Velasquez, Army Forces Battalion motor sergeant. "I wanted to motivate those I work with everyday."

The first 10 of almost 200 participants to cross the finish line did it in less than 50 minutes, just to go back on the course to encourage their fellow service members still running and walking. Others cheered from the sidelines, showing that Joint Task Force-Bravo is a true "team of teams."

U. S. Army Staff Sgt Michelle Cavazos, JTF-Bravo Medical Element public health services noncommissioned officer in charge, believes that even though everyone is out there competing, deep down everyone wants everyone to succeed.

"We are proud when one of our own places on the charts," stated Cavazos. "Everyone encourages each other to complete the run to the best of their ability. Here at JTF-Bravo we are one big family."
