    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Family, friends and service members gathered at Marston Pavilion here, Feb. 21 to attend a change of command ceremony between Lt. Col. Kevin G. Collins, the outgoing commanding officer, and Lt. Col. Daniel H. Coleman, the incoming CO for Combat Logistics Battalion 26, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group.

The mission statement of CLB-26 is to provide the Marine Expeditionary Unit with mission-essential combat service support to ensure readiness, sustainment, and mission capability are achieved and maintained.

During the ceremony, after Collins gave his thanks to family and fellow service members he turned to the battalion and reflected on his thoughts.

“To the Marines and sailors with the battalion, success in a CLB requires us to be individually and coactively humble and selfless,” said Collins, a Detroit, Mich., native. “The legacy of a CLB is found not in our success but the success of the units we support. I always reminded you when you look down at your name tapes, and see on your left side it says ‘U.S. Marines’, that [name tape] will always be more important than the one on the right side. The strength of the [Marine Air Ground Task Force] or [Marine Expeditionary Unit] is not through combat power, it’s not the command and control, it’s the fact that it’s made of Marines. Marines are special and I am grateful for your service and I love every one of you.”

Col. Gary F. Keim, the commanding officer of Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd MLG, II Marine Expeditionary Force, also gave his regards to Collins and the battalion.

“You have set a template for everyone else to follow, and anyone who falls below the bar you set will be seen as inefficient,” said Keim. “I cannot thank you enough for that, and this institution can’t thank you enough for that.”

During Collins’ tenure in command, the battalion has participated in Exercise Bold Alligator 12 as the direct support and the Landing Force Support Party for 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade; Enhanced Mojave Viper 5-12; War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration events in Baltimore and Norfolk as a Special Purpose MAGTAF embarked on the USS San Antonio and USS Fort McHenry; and most recently as the Logistics Combat Element for the 26th MEU, providing contingency support to combatant and Naval Component Commanders in Central Command, Africa Command, and European Command areas of responsibility.

Once Collins gave his remarks, Coleman took the stand and spoke to the outgoing commander.

“Over the past week I have seen what [Lt. Col.] Collins has built and I am going to be the beneficiary of that,” said Coleman, an Ames, Iowa, native. “It’s an amazing organization, and it really is a tribute to your skill and dedication as a leader.”

Completing the ceremony, both Collins and Coleman stood together and listened to the ‘Marine Corps Hymn’, finalizing Coleman as the present battalion commander.
