CG invites spouses to luncheon, shows appreciation of their work

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – Maj. Gen. Steven Busby, commanding general of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), and his wife, Cindy Busby hosted more than 40 spouses at their house for lunch aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Feb. 13.

As part of his Committed and Engaged Spouses initiative, Busby invited the spouses to learn about their personal endeavors in the Marine Corps and show his appreciations for what they do.

“The most important thing in 3rd MAW is the Marine, not the aircraft here or the flight schedules,” said Busby. “With [the spouses’ help] we can make sure Marines stay safe and stay in the fight.”

The Committed and Engaged Spouses intiative describes the importance of the spouse to their Marine, other spouses and the Corps.

“It’s not only about volunteering,” said Sgt. Maj. Patrick Kimble, sergeant major of 3rd MAW, to the spouses who attended. “You don’t have to run out and volunteer at the unit’s family functions. What’s important is that you’re grabbing that new lance corporal’s wife or the new lieutenant’s wife and showing them around and educating them.”

The spouses who attended the luncheon come from various 3rd MAW units and were personally selected and recognized by the family readiness officers of their units.

Busby explained that every spouse should teach and encourage other spouses to seek information to better understand the Marine Corps lifestyle.

“We hope that when your husband or wife has to [change duty stations] that you take this with you,” said Cindy Busby. “You won’t stop being committed and engaged just because you’ve left 3rd MAW; go to your next unit, go volunteer and tell everybody about it!”
