NEW BERN, N.C. - More than 100 Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Marines and Sailors volunteered their time to assist in the A Dog's Dream Dreamer's Foundation's third annual family fun day at the New Bern Convention Center, Feb. 22.

"We are doing this event to raise awareness about animal rescue," said Dan Spangler, promoter of the event. "The Dreamer's Foundation is non-profit organization with two goals: foster and taking care of animals, and helping out other rescues with donations and support."

The amount of volunteers from Cherry Point was awesome, according to Spangler. Volunteers supported the event last year and came through again this year.

"I just love to volunteer," said Lance Cpl. Richard D. Eidson, a KC-130J aircraft communication systems technician. "This is a great way to give back to others and show support for foundations throughout the community."

During the event, some Marines and Sailors dressed up as super heroes and signed autographs, while others painted faces and controlled game booths.

"The event turned out to be awesome," said Eidson. "Many other volunteers showed support and every one who came seemed to be having a great time. I am excited for the event to return next year."
