10th RSG logistics team support Cobra Gold

PHITSANULOK, Thailand – Soldiers with 10th Regional Support Group, based out of Okinawa, provided overall logistic and service support to more than 1,000 U.S. service members participating in Exercise Cobra Gold 2014, a large-scale multinational exercise taking place throughout the Kingdom of Thailand.

The 10th RSG supported previous Cobra Gold exercises, but for some members it was their first time to participate.

“This is my first time to support Cobra Gold, and it has been a super experience for me and my team,” said U.S. Army Col. Sheila Bryant, commander, 10th RSG, Okinawa.

“This is a rich opportunity to enhance our understanding of multinational logistics and our ability to leverage capabilities in the Pacific,” said Bryant. “This exercise shows our commitment to our rebalance in the Pacific. More importantly, experiences like this strengthen our relationship with the Thai people, and we are so thankful for the support we’ve received from them.”

At Camp Akatosarot, the Royal Thai Army provided facilities for participants to live in, laundry services and medical triage along with training areas to conduct operational field missions.
According to Bryant, her team provided acquisition and service contracts valued at $1 million that allowed all the participants to effectively achieve their goals.

The service contracts included life support requirements, transportation services, fuel through the Defense Logistics Agency, water, toilets, tables and other related supplies needed by the participants.

Bryant said her team was able to work alongside awesome folks from various units with U.S. Army Pacific Command and other smaller units throughout the U.S. Army. “Throughout the exercise, we were able to successfully merge our capabilities, and we have received great support from all units including service members with our sister services in the U.S. Navy, Marines and Air Force,” said Bryant.

Working in a joint environment is not new to U.S. Army Maj. Yukio Kuniyuki, Cobra Gold’s Army Forces Logistics Task Force operations officer, but like the colonel, this is his first time to support Cobra Gold.

“This has been an awesome experience,” said Kuniyuki. “The people of Thailand helped us in so many ways and helped us to make sure we had all the resources we needed to conduct the exercise. It was beneficial to meet and work with our Thai partners prior to the exercise during the planning conferences so when it was exercise execution time, we knew who to contact for help.”

“Exercises like CG14 build bilateral relationship needed to respond to future contingencies,” said Kuniyuki. “The closer our countries can work together, the better the future looks as we move forward.”
