MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Staff Sgt. Dacu E. Carausu, 2211th Mobilization Support Battalion, 2nd Mobilization Support Group, 85th Support Command, received the Purple Heart Medal from Lt. Col. Scott Morris, 2nd Mobilization Support Group executive officer, who presided over the ceremony at the Sgt. James Witkowski Army Reserve Center, Mountain View, Calif., Feb. 8.

“Staff Sgt. Carausu is a shining example of selfless service and resilience,” Morris noted during remarks to Carausu and soldiers from the 2209th, 2210th, and 2211th Mobilization Support Bns. in attendance there. “I suspect that your greatest contributions to the Army and the nation are still ahead of you.”

Lt. Col. Ted Hawkins, 2210th Mob. Spt. Bn. commander echoed Morris’ sentiments during his remarks.

“The Purple Heart recognizes the pain which too often comes with honorable duty for those who stand against the enemies of freedom,” said Hawkins.

Carausu was awarded the medal for wounds that he received during an improvised explosive device detonation during his deployment to Iraq, while assigned to the 308th Tactical Psychological Operations Company. Carausu served there as an assistant team leader, responsible for a three-person team in the Mugdadivah area of operations.

“I appreciate having it, [I] am honored to represent it, and [I] am even more thankful to those who’ve earned it by paying the ultimate sacrifice,” said Carausu.

Carausu intends to complete his college degree and compete for an opportunity to serve as a U.S. Army officer.
