FORT STEWART, Ga. – Lt. Col. Nathan Swartz, outgoing commander for 703th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Mosier, the outgoing command sergeant major for 703rd BSB, transferred command and responsibility to Lt. Col. Brandon Klink and Command Sgt. Maj. Juan Abreu, Jan. 24, on Cottrell Field.

“A little over 27 months ago, Command Sgt. Maj. Mosier and I began the journey as the new Maintain 6 and 7, not quite sure what to expect,” said Swartz, who commanded the Maintain Battalion since October 2011. ”My only regret is today is the end of command time.”

“The last two-plus years have gone by faster than I would have ever imagined,” added the Tullahoma, Tenn., native.

Although the sun was shining brightly in a clear sky, it was an atypical Georgian day as the temperatures were sub-freezing accounting for the wind chill.

“It is clearly not a warm and sunny coastal Georgia morning,” Swartz commented.

In the ceremony, Mosier, from Sebring, Fla., passed the unit colors to Swartz, as his final duty as the 703rd command senior enlisted adviser. After, Mosier passed the noncommissioned officer’s sword to Abreu, from Monticello, N.Y., which signifies relinquishing responsibility to the incoming command sergeant major.

“The Maintain Battalion is fortunate to gain a proven leader,” Swartz said. “I look forward to hearing about your successes adding to the rich traditions of this battalion.”

“I appreciate the welcome and the opportunity to lead these exceptional soldiers, leaders and families,” Klink said.

Klink, from Fort Wainwright, Alaska, also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing command team.

“Thank you for your leadership and lasting contribution to this battalion’s proud legacy,” Klink added.

“As we depart the Maintain family and Vanguard team, we would like to thank the soldiers, families and civilians that have made our time at the Rock of the Marne one that will never be forgotten,” Swartz said. “I am proud to have served as the Maintain the Line commander, as a teammate on the Vanguard Brigade team and damn proud to be a Dog Face Soldier.”
