MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. - The Air National Guard’s I.G. Brown Training and Education Center recognized its three Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2013 here this week with high praise from the Commander, Col. Tim Cathcart.

The TEC recognizes its top performers each year from its fulltime staff of more than 80 civilians and airmen assigned from the regular Air Force, the Air Force Reserve Command and the Air National Guard.

The 2013 Outstanding airmen of the Year are:

Senior Noncommissioned Officer: Master Sgt. Mike R. Smith, who is an Air National Guard airman assigned as the TEC’s Public Affairs manager.

Noncommissioned Officer: Tech. Sgt. Kasimu “Moe” Greenidge, who is a regular Air Force Airman assigned as a “dual qualified” enlisted professional military education instructor (EPME) for the Paul H. Lankford EPME Center.

Airman: Senior Airman Aaron Rush is a regular Air Force airman assigned as a Student Operations administrator for the Lankford Center.

“These individuals displayed sustained superior performance over the past calendar year and were big parts of the TEC having another incredible year of engaging, educating, and inspiring America's airmen,” said Cathcart in an emailed announcement.

“Thanks for all that each of you do in making our team successful,” said Cathcart.

Smith previously served in public affairs with the Missouri Air National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing. Prior to that, he was a journalist assigned to the National Guard Bureau’s Joint Staff, among his many previous duty stations.

Greenidge was also recognized earlier in 2013 as the TEC and Air National Guard Readiness Center NCO of the Second Quarter. Prior to his current assignment, he served with the U.S. Northern Command, Headquarters, North American Aerospace Defense Command, among other assignments.

"I'm proud to be part of a team without whom I would not have been able reach such high levels of praise,” said Greenidge.

“The guidance and support of the awesome members of my TEC family propel me to achieve levels I wouldn't otherwise reach in my personal and professional life," said Greenidge.

Rush works in a demanding student operations section, said officials. His section handles an annual volume of Noncommissioned Officer Academy and Airman Leadership School students that’s among the largest in the U.S. Air Force. The TEC previously recognized him in 2013 as its Airman of the Second Quarter. He last served with the 28th Test and Evaluation Squadron, 53rd Wing, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.

Cathcart praised the TEC’s overall “high quality staff and faculty team.”

“Despite the challenges of 2013, we achieved our goals and accomplished our mission,” he said. “I'm confident that in 2014 we will take things to the next level as we continue to add value to the Air National Guard, the Air Force and America.”
