PAKTIKA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan provincial and district leaders asked village leaders to support more local police in Paktika province’s Sar Houzah district Jan. 11 during a security shura where villagers expressed concerns.
“We are all here today to hear the concerns and security issues the elders are experiencing and find solutions to their problems,” said district Gov. Masoom Khan Kharoti to elders representing more than 34 villages from the district.
During the shura, the governor praised Afghan National Security Forces’ efforts, especially the work Afghan Local Police have done to improve their villages.
“Our security forces have been working well together and our district is constantly improving because of it. We now have better roads, businesses and education in our district because of the ANSF,” said the governor, explaining how important it was for the ALP to have the elders’ assistance.
“The ALP is the main source of security in most villages,” said Sher Mohammed, district ALP commander. “Village elders need to be completely supportive of us and let us know when there is something they need from us so we can be more effective and bring more security to your villages.”
Paktika provincial deputy police chief, Shahurali Sarhawal, nevertheless stressed the importance each Afghan citizen has doing what they can to improve Afghanistan.
“No matter your rank in ANSF or position in society, we all have the same goals in mind and they are … increased security and the success of a united Afghanistan,” said Sarhawal.
“Everyone has skills that can improve our country, whether you are a soldier, writer or doctor,” he added. “Please encourage your sons to use whatever skills or abilities they have to improve our country.”
