3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division

FORT BRAGG N.C. - As the room filled with the very important people, the fathers of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, escorted the daughters and were ready to dance the night away with fun, food, and crafts at the Fort Bragg Club.

One-hundred-eleven VIPs gathered to enjoy a night of activities to celebrate and strengthen the bond between daughter and father on Nov. 22, 2013.

“This is a great opportunity for the fathers in the 3rd Brigade to enjoy some well-deserved quality time with their daughters,” said Maj. Samuel Kim, chaplain, of 3rd BCT. “We have 95 fathers that have already purchased tickets and 16 who plan on bringing two daughters.”

Chaplains from across the brigade planned the event based on previous events similar to this. The idea was to keep it cost effective, close to Fort Bragg, and an event that would benefit all who participated in it.

“We took a model that has worked in the past to build stronger bonds between parents and siblings and modified it for this event,” Kim added.

One could say that this could be a little girl’s dream: a buffet dinner, arts and crafts, dancing, and dessert; all in the company of the best man on Earth: Dad. This simply sounds like a night that was designed for the daughters of the 3rd BCT.

There we nothing but laughs, smiles, and screeches of enjoyment the entire night, from the pre-dance session spontaneously sparked by some eager participants to line for the much anticipated dessert.

“The best thing about tonight is dancing with my dad,” said Abby Donnatelle, daughter attending the dance.

Fathers seemed to just enjoy the quality time they were able to spend with their daughters. Many of them laughed and danced while having a wonderful time with the ones they love.

“The best is being able to spend time with my daughter and being able to see her dance,” said Sgt. Kevin Cormier, Battery C, 1st Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd BCT.

The Father-Daughter Dance was enjoyed and appreciated by everyone involved, from the planning to the execution of it.

“I like to see all the smiles, and I know the daughters want to spend more time with their fathers and this is the perfect event for them,” said Pfc. Auston Duggins, a chaplain’s assistant for the 82nd Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd BCT.
