YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea – The Army and Navy football teams took to the field for the 14th annual flag football game here at the Seoul American High School, Nov. 30.
Col. Michael. E. Masley, commander of U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, opened the event with well wishes and thanked everyone for attending. He also reminded everyone that all the players are ultimately on the same team.
“First, I want to say thanks to all the people who are here to support this event, the people who are visiting and also the cheerleaders who do such an amazing performance,” Masley said. “Here at the U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan it’s an honor to host such an event. I hope you all do your best to play a game with no regrets, and just have fun.”
The Navy put forth a valiant effort, but the Army was relentless, and the final score of 62 to 0 proved who was the mightier of the two teams, this time.
The coach of the winning team, Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Sharif Blount, accountable officer for Supply Point 51, 501st Sustainment Brigade, commented about the team’s victory.
“We were practicing two weeks for about two hours a day, but the members were all soldiers who love sports and wanted to participate in a football game. So I had no difficulty at all [motivating them],” Blount said. “The credit of the win goes all to the players of course, they did a wonderful job. I want to say thanks to all the people supporting and the Yongsan Garrison for the win.”
At the end of the day, it’s not always about who wins or loses; it’s about fellowship and coming together in a spirit of brotherhood and unity. But sometimes it is about winning - Army strong!
