SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – If you need tickets to Disney World, where do you go? If there is a deep-sea fishing trip going on, who do you sign up with? If you need to get a shadow box made for a retirement, where would you get that?

The answer is Studio 20, and they do even more than that, said John Lonergan, the Studio 20 manager.

Studio 20 now incorporates all your creative, productive and retail needs in one house, said Lonergan.

Instead of going to three different offices to get three different items for an event, all you have to do now is come to Studio 20 in the McElveen Resource Center and speak to Lonergan.

Studio 20 also hosts the Single Airmen Initiative.

The SAI holds free or low cost events for single Airmen E-1 to E-4. As part of the initiative, Studio 20 recently hosted a deep-sea fishing trip from Calabash, N.C.

“I caught red snapper, sea bass, ringtail, and seaweed,” said Airman 1st Class Scott Shreve, a 20th Force Support Squadron dining facility storeroom apprentice.

Shreve heard about the trip from a friend and said that although this was his first experience deep-sea fishing, it definitely wouldn’t be his last.

“The best part of the trip was seeing dolphins swim alongside the boat,” Shreve said.

The SAI was started by the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force in 2010 and is operated by each installations FSS, said Lonergan. The goal is to provide FSS resources that foster a strong culture, mission, and sense of community for single Airmen.

The SAI’s resources also pay for: Wi-Fi in the Shaw Fitness Center, a putt putt golf arcade game in the MRC, cooking classes, corn hole boards, deep-sea fishing trips, and more.

In fact, on Nov. 8, they’re hosting a free golf tournament designed for senior non-commissioned officers and junior enlisted Airmen to team up, as well as have mentorship time, said Lonergan.

Field grade officers can team up with company grade officers in this tournament as well.

Studio 20 is also holding the Boo Bash on Oct. 26; events include a trunk-or-treat from 5-8 p.m., a mini carnival for kids and a movie outside on the big screen, Lonergan said.
