VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) kicked off the annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Oct. 7.

The campaign will run from Oct. 7 through Dec. 15, during this time NECC federal and military personnel will have the opportunity to donate to organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.

NECC’s goal this year is to raise more than $15,000.

“Last year our goal was $21,000, this year due to circumstances of furlough and the government shutdown we are aware that people are not going to be able to contribute as much money as they have in the past,” said Yeoman 2nd Class Ashley Gray, NECC CFC representative.

Gray is no stranger to supporting CFC.

“I love it. This is my second year being a CFC representative,” said Gray. “CFC provides a one-stop shop for anyone who wants to contribute to a charity whether it is United Way or Susan G. Komen. Instead of having contributors go out and find an organization, they can easily choose from one source.”

The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

This year’s CFC theme is “Together, we can make a difference”.

“Every year you know there will be a big CFC donation event and it gives Sailors the chance to give to an organization that they feel deeply about,” said Chief Logistics Specialists Daniel Hamar, NECC CFC representative. “We seem to focus on our jobs, our mission, and our family so much that we can sometimes forget about the less fortunate.”

“CFC gives us that chance to remember everyone else and the chance to give something,” said Hamar. “We know that no matter how little we are able to give, we are doing a good thing that will make a difference in someone else's life.”

NECC serves as the single functional command for the Navy's expeditionary forces and as central management for the readiness, resources, manning, training and equipping of those forces. Expeditionary forces are organized to accomplish specific objectives in other countries.
