MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 hosted a Jane Wayne Day Live Fire Shoot for Marine spouses at Carlos Hathcock Range aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Sept. 28.

Approximately 30 family members participated in the event and experienced what a day in their spouses’ boots is like.

The day started with Marines and their spouses traveling to Carlos Hathcock Range on East Miramar, where they received a safety brief from the range officer. The spouses met their shooting instructors and started to settle in along their designated spots on the firing line.

“It’s a unique opportunity for our families to come out here and see what our Marines do on a annual basis,” said Lt. Col. Edward Debish, MWCS-38 commanding officer. “The weapon our Marines qualify with is the same weapon that they’re actually going to get to shoot.”

The firing started at 9 a.m. and lasted one hour. By the time cease-fire was called from the tower, 3,000 rounds had been sent down range. The weapons were then cleared and collected by the instructors allowing the spouses to experience an old fashioned police call for all the spent shell casings.

Debish thanked everyone who came out and supported the Jane Wayne Day efforts because the amount of organization it takes to get families out to the event is “huge.”

The Marines and their spouses then traveled back to MCAS Miramar and ate lunch at the Gonzales Dining Facility, where they were presented with awards and commended for participating in the event.
