    19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command

DAEGU, South Korea - Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, U.S. Army Pacific commanding general, made his first visit to Area IV Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 with his wife, Carol P. Brooks, to apprehend the status of the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command and its subordinate units.

This visitation included tours and updates of the 2nd Operational Command, 19th ESC, Materiel Support Center-Korea, 403rd Army Field Support Brigade and Camp Oscar. It also included USARPAC baseball cap presentations for nine recognizable soldiers.

Brig. Gen. Stephen E. Farmen, 19th ESC commanding general, and his staff briefed Brooks on the mission, vision and current status of the 19th ESC on Oct. 1 at Camp Henry. The command brief was continued by the 501st Sustainment Brigade, MSC-K, 403rd AFSB, Defense Logistics Agency and 837th Transportation Battalion.

During the command brief, Brooks stressed the importance of the mission that 19th ESC has as a sustainment command. He stated the main mission of the 19th ESC is to satisfy the Eighth Army’s needs since it is a logistics operating command and the value of sustainment unit is supportiveness.

Brooks also expressed his concerns with the sexual assault problem in the Army and emphasized on the roles of leaders on that issue.

It is unacceptable when a victim departs a duty station not knowing the status of a reported case. Brooks stated, “As leaders, we have to support the victim first, and then pursue the truth.”

He also told the leaders in the command brief to take interest in the soldiers of their units to prevent the sexual assault problems.

“Give advice to the people in the unit before something happens and take care where the sexual assault condition comes from,” Brooks said. “We have to make it to zero incidents and 100 percent reporting.”

The general took tours of the Heavy Equipment Division and Army Prepositioned Stock (APS)-4 warehouse at Camp Carroll after receiving the 19th ESC’s command brief. During his tour, Brooks presented USARPAC baseball caps to nine soldiers who were recognized by the command sergeants major of the units as a means of encouragement.

The visit concluded following an Area IV social with senior leader at Camp Walker.
