Recruits endure Crucible on Parris Island to become Marines

Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. PARRIS ISLAND, S.C – Recruits of Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, proved they are worthy of the title of United States Marine during recruit training’s 54-hour culminating event, the Crucible, on Aug. 22-24, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C.

During the Crucible, recruits are evaluated mentally, morally and physically on their development of the Marine Corps’ core values. Golf Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 30, 2013.
