MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Marine Corps Community Services introduced a five-week, introductory golf program at Paradise Point Golf Course aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, recently.

The new Get Golf Ready program was designed exclusively for beginners by Paradise Point PGA Head Golf Professional John R. Johnson. The clinics serve to build a better future for the game within the Camp Lejeune community.

“I want to make sure there’s a future in golf,” said Johnson. “From what I see, students love the class, especially children. I will keep teaching as long as I can for the growth of the game.”

The program offers group lessons for beginners of all ages with junior, ladies’ and co-ed adult clinics, August to October.

Each amateur golfer benefits from individual instruction and Johnson’s constructive criticism on how to improve their golf game. He utilizes similar coaching techniques for each clinic, emphasizing the importance of golf fundamentals to each student.

“I’ve learned a lot from the class so far,” said Liam Motley, a Get Golf Ready student.

Johnson strives to bring a plethora of quality golf programs to the Camp Lejeune community. The PGA golf professional’s passion for the game was the driving force behind the introduction of Get Golf Ready.

“This year, I started clinics as soon as it was nice outside,” said Johnson. “I wanted to teach as many classes as possible and they kicked off as soon as I had permission.”

In addition to teaching fundamental golf techniques, Johnson ends each clinic with a group challenge, providing students with valuable lessons in good sportsmanship.

Paradise Point has the only 36-hole golf course aboard a Marine Corps base along with two driving ranges, a clubhouse and a pro shop. The course offers an assortment of programs catering to all skill levels and offers special programs for active-duty service members and their families.
