MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The Lejeune Bulldogs kicked off against the Palmetto Hurricanes at Liversedge Stadium aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Sept. 7.

Starting quarterback Frank Bryant said the team has practiced hard to prepare for the game and is going to play even harder.

“If we can execute on offense and defense, then no one can stop us,” said Bryant.

The Bulldogs offense started slow with one recovered fumble and one interception but managed to tie the score 6-6 by the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs had two turnovers and weren’t able to produce results on offense.

The Bulldogs went into the second half down 6-18 and ready for a comeback.

At half time, coach Glaister said we needed to wake up and play our style of football – play Marine Corps football, said Bryant.

When Bryant switched to wide receiver in the third quarter, he caught the ball inside the opposing 10-yard line and fought through three tackles for a touchdown, bringing the game to 14-18.

The Bulldogs’ defense kept the team and the crowd alive when defensive lineman Aeric Clay forced a fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs on the opposing one-yard line.

After the fumble, quarterback Preston Silvey ran the ball into the end zone for a touchdown which put the Bulldogs in the lead, 21-18.

The offense came through when the Bulldogs needed it most, and the defense played strong the entire game, said Silvey.

The Bulldogs’ defense brought the heat until the final whistle.

With under a minute left in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs defense intercepted what would have been a touchdown pass by the Hurricanes.

“Marines are trained to neutralize and destroy the enemy and that’s what we did today. We attacked hard on defense all game,” said Clay.

The Bulldogs celebrated a 21-18 victory over the Hurricanes, bringing their season record to 6-1.

The Lejeune Bulldogs are slated to take the turf against the Carolina Stallions at Liversedge Stadium, Saturday.
